How will the ELC benefit you and your role at work?

The Empathetic Leadership Certification will strengthen my ability to lead people with intention while continuing to build a culture of trust, accountability, and belonging. It will provide practical tools to better understand different perspectives, navigate difficult conversations, and help others grow.

As Chief People & Culture Officer, my impact extends beyond the employees I work with directly. By becoming a stronger, more empathetic leader, I can better develop our leaders, who in turn influence hundreds of employees across our organization. That ripple effect ultimately strengthens our culture, improves the employee experience, and helps us better serve our communities.

The opportunity to surround myself with like-minded leaders who bring different perspectives, experiences, and backgrounds in a setting led by Michael Sgro is incredibly exciting. I know the conversations will challenge my thinking, broaden my perspective, and create meaningful connections. Just as importantly, it will expand my network beyond my current ecosystem, providing lasting relationships and resources that I can continue to learn from.

What role does empathy play in a healthy work culture?

Empathy is the foundation of trust. It means taking the time to understand someone's perspective before leading or making decisions. To me, empathy doesn't replace accountability, it strengthens it. When people feel heard and respected, they're more engaged, more willing to grow, and more likely to contribute to a positive culture. Empathy also bridges differences by creating meaningful connections, fostering collaboration, and building relationships among people who may have very little in common.

How are workplaces changing and what are employees seeking beside a paycheck?

People want purpose, growth, connection, and psychological safety. Competitive pay gets people in the door, but culture is what keeps them there. Employees want leaders who listen, opportunities to develop, flexibility when possible, and confidence that their work has meaning. They want to know their contributions make a difference and that they are part of an organization that invests in both its people and its mission.

What particular value to do you embrace and practice as a professional?

The value I strive to live every day is adding value to others. I believe leadership is about helping people grow, succeed, and become leaders themselves. When you invest in people, the impact extends far beyond one individual. It strengthens teams, organizations, and ultimately the communities we serve.
